My college football column for week 12 is live once again at CT.com. It can be read here.
Here are some bonus picks from my buddy Spills, plus a couple more from me below.
Here are my favorite plays of the weekend.
Indiana at Penn State UNDER 56 - Just seems too high based on overreaction to PSU being better than expected. 40 degrees at kickoff isn't fun either. Unless this game is Homecoming, I would make a play on this.
NC State at Clemson OVER 64 - Clemson might drop a 60 spot on their own. Since week 1, when they had all the suspended players, they haven't scored less than 38 all season and are averaging 43/game. NC State has some pride and they chuck it all over the place, so I don't see why they can't contribute at least 27 points.
Notre Dame -23.5 vs. Wake - I hate myself for making this pick, but NC State beat Wake 37-6 last week and ND smells blood now that Alabama lost. Plus, it's ND's last home game before last game at USC, and have only blown out The U at home this year. I think they take the Demon Deacons behind the woodshed... 48-16.
Missouri -4.5 vs. Syracuse - Really?! After taking it from behind all year in their first season in the SEC, you really think Mizzou isn't going to want to beat the bag out of somebody. Syracuse comes in after blowing their load, beating undefeated Louisville, and now has to play an out of conference night game. 45-30 Mizzou
Mississippi State -6.5 vs. Arkansas - Arkansas still blows, they beat Tulsa by 4 two weeks ago, one of 4 wins, 3 if you don't count 1AA Jacksonville State. MSU started off 7-0 then lost 3 straight: @Bama, vs. A&M, @LSU. Last home game for MSU, then @Ole Miss (win) then bowl game (a win there would give them 10, which they need in order to stay relevant is the SEC/recruiting). This is a really big game for MSU, thank God Relf isn't the QB.
A couple quick bonus picks...
Northwestern +7.5 over Michigan State - Northwestern doesn't get much respect from oddsmakers, but they're competitive with everyone in the Big Ten. This will be a tough environment, and I think Michigan State comes away with the win, but I like the underrated Wildcats to keep it close.
Wisconsin -2 over Ohio State - My upset pick of the week. Wisconsin has gotten A LOT better over the course of the season, especially after they replaced Danny O'Brien at QB. If you only watched them early in the year, you need to reassess your feelings toward this team. Montee Ball has it going, Wisconsin is in pole position for a BCS berth, and most importantly, I just don't think this Ohio State team is good enough to finish the season undefeated. Close game, but I like the Badgers to pull it out.
